Exhibitions entitled Miniature Pictures have always been present throughout the history of the Day of Hungarian Painting.

To Miniature Pictures, around a hundred painters are invited each year to showcase (canvas) images of 20 x 20 cm in size. The concept behind organising the exhibition has always been to introduce high-quality painting initiatives by offering a very wide scope and range of artistic outlooks and viewpoints. Diversity in the applied perspectives and techniques makes this exhibition a spectacular event, with Anikó Zöld assuming the role of curator from the very start of the initiative.

Up to now numerous venues showcased this event, and this year only two venues host the exhibition: Vigadó Gallery and Vízivárosi Gallery. The selection of these venues allowed for a slight change in the artistic concept applied so far. This year, all participating painters exhibit two pictures, which setup gave rise to the idea of showcasing corresponding pictures, thereby prompting the creation of works matching the exhibition’s title ‘Matching Pictures’. The production of such corresponding images presents the artists a more complex task of creation: the two images might have something in common or they could be each other’s opposites. The two pictures may in fact more expressly portray and represent a painter’s programme than one single image.
