Treasures from Košice

Selection from the Collection of the Eastern Slovakia Museum Košice

The Kosice-based Eastern Slovakia Museum Košice was founded in 1872 under the name of Museum Guild of Upper Hungary.The Guild was established by Kosice-based civilians, namely by Imre Henszlmann, the Klimkovics Brothers including Ferenc, Béla and Gábor Klimkovics, Viktor Myskovszky and others, who wished to nurture culture in their town. The first exhibition of the Museum of Upper Hungary was installed in the building of the Inn of the Golden Star in 1876, which has been demolished since then. Today the Eastern Slovakia Museum Košice is one of the biggest and most notable museums of the Slovakian Republic. 456,652 objects are deposited in the Museum’s collections, which include exhibits from the fields of sciences, archaeology, ethnography, history, art history, numismatics, applied arts and other areas. This current exhibition in Vigadó entitled “Treasures from Košice – Selection from the Collection of the Eastern Slovakia Museum Košice” features the most valuable pieces of the Museum’s objects.
