Sárköz, the garden of beauty

The Hungary-based Sárköz Region

Celebratory exhibition by Master of Folk Art and Regular Member of the Hungarian Academy of Arts’ Section of Folk Arts, weaver Mária Fodorné László.

“...those who enter the Garden of Beauty will be able to write and dream up poetry, recite songs, weave, do embroidery, because all beauty will then be located at one single place... ,” late folk artist Éva Kati assumed. One cannot think of a better phrasing to introduce a future exhibition presenting works by Master of Folk Art and Regular Member of the Hungarian Academy of Arts’ Section of Folk Arts, weaver Mária Fodorné László, who is the greatest master and the most qualified living expert of the folkweave heritage of Hungary’s Sárköz Region, which area exhibits one of the richest folkweave cultures both in Hungary and in the regions populated by Hungarian minorities. This way, the showcasing conjures up the beauty of the master’s birth village called Decs (Hungary) and the entire Sárköz Region. In addition, Mária Fodorné László pays tribute to her masters by exhibiting one folkweave artwork by each of these masters.

“Weaving is a remedy for both happiness and sorrow”, weaver Mária Fodorné László claims, which remedy is now available also to visitors to this exhibition.

This showcasing features both old and new artworks from a lifework that builds on recognising, retaining and renewing weaving traditions at a high level of artistic quality, and presents efforts to end through the beautiful hand-woven folkweave items on display.
