“My Winter Coat”

Recitation evening featuring pieces by Tamás Cseh

Was Tamás Cseh a minstrel, a lute player, a singer or a storyteller? Whatever we call his art, Tamás Cseh was the troubadour of the end of the 20th century. His songs, composed to accompany poems by Hungarian lyrics writer Géza Bereményi, chronicled the age of the late Kádár era with the help of his songs’ metaphorical interpretation of life under the communist rule. This way, Tamás Cseh wrote everyday chronicles about Hungarians’ ordinary grievances, fears, choices, helplessness, love affairs and happy moments. Playing only his guitar, he produced reports about the contemporary Hungarian way of life in his simple and modest style characterised by human dignity. Tamás Cseh sang not only to Hungarians but also about Hungarians. “What is important is not really you but the songs,” these were Géza Bereményi’s encouraging words to Tamás Cseh before his performances.

This recitation evening entitled My Winter Coat is featured among the repertoire performances of Tamási Áron Theatre of Sfantu Gheorghe.

This evening show is performed by Háromszék Dance Ensemble.
