Kókay Krisztina ’75 – Miracles of Lines

Ticket prices

Showcasing over four decades of artworks by graphic and textile artist Krisztina Kókay, this jubilee exhibition presents artist Kókay’s emblematic wall carpets, graphics painted on textile as well as single and copied drawings in an attempt to offer an insight into, and a transcendent alternative of, today’s world, which is forced apart by the tempers of postmodern panic flared by disappointment in the postmodern.

The exhibition also wishes to offer a parallel reality to the mistaken optimism of deconstructive art and to the criticism of certitude discovered in self-indulgent self-realisation. The demand for both coherent intelligence and a universal definition of divine purpose is linked to the commonly-shared collective memory and the archetype of universal experience, which secures a place for everything that is communal or sharable in any community.

In our transient age characterised by disruption, disconnectedness and alienation, it is merely the reinterpretation of order and the spiritual relations of existence that attach us to this material world, where exclusively the unresolvable tension of the golden means overcoming dualistic thinking is capable of providing humans with a sadly missed synthesis through the divine light shining through the universe. The central organising unit of Krisztina Kókay’s abstract pictorial world is the line, which not only multiplies the fundamental qualities of the thread giving birth to textiles but also defines the compositional order of graphic transformations. Voiced through her unique tone, Krisztina Kókay’s search for new paths redefines sense and meaning, and concurrently demonstrates the playful game between predictability and regularity by way of assuming a viewpoint that falls outside the scope of her own perspective.
