The Orchestra is venturing out on their first international concert tour in 2018!

Situated in the American state of Pennsylvania, Pittsburgh was built at the confluence of three rivers. In fact, the name of the Orchestra also references this geographical formation.  Pittsburgh, also called the “Steel City”, is the 20th largest town in the USA, and its population with its suburbs amounts to over 2.6 million people. In 1974, two enthusiastic one-time members of the Pittsburgh Symphony Orchestra, called Phyllis Susen and Bernard Z. Goldberg, founded the Three Rivers Young People’s Orchestra for high school students aged between 13 and 18.

After the 44 years following its foundation, the Three Rivers Young People’s Orchestra has been developing rapidly and continuously, and as a result of its mergers with other local musical formations, by now it has contributed to educating numerous generations of music lovers and music professionals. Thanks to a close cooperation with the Pittsburgh Symphony Orchestra, young musicians of the Three Rivers Young People’s Orchestra have the opportunity to work under the supervision of the biggest names of the world of music.

It is hoped that the audience’s warm-hearted welcome of the Orchestra, which is venturing out on their first international concert tour in 2018, will appreciate the enthusiasm and hard work the Orchestra has invested in preparing for their first European appearances comprising their concerts in Prague, Vienna and Budapest.

Conductor of the Orchestra, John Wilcox has worked together with such experts as Antal Doráti and Mstislav Rostropovich. For the renowned American conductor, this concert tour will be both the crown achievement and the concluding accomplishment of his over two-decade-long conducting career and lifework in music.
