Group'n'Swing's performances are characterised by outstanding musical quality, captivatingly energetic choreography and cheerful bliss, which radiate a kind of bewitchingly positive energy. Staged in Pesti Vigadó, this concert bids farewell to the old year and greets the new year. On the occasion of this new year's concert, Pesti Vigadó interviewed the Band's captivating singer Réka Mihályi.

You have a legal degree and you also work as a lawyer. What is your story? How did you end up to be Group'n'Swing's singer?

My life has always been accompanied by an interesting duality: as for me, my profession and artistic career go hand in hand and they jointly blossom. For me, this everyday reality is a natural scenario. This is what I saw in my childhood around me. My father had his profession and my mother was a real sensitive artist. Since my early childhood, music and singing have been present in my life, and I played the cello for 11 years. Then, during my university years, I earned some money to pay for my tuition by singing in different bands. This was the beginning my career: I was trying to find my artistic self at that time. Then, in 2009, my friend Barna Pély introduced me to the Group'n'Swing band, who were currently looking for new singers. I went to the first rehearsal and they did not let me go. And since then – thank God – I have been with the Band.

You have been good friends with Group'n'Swing's frontman Zoltán Mujahid. Did you get to know each other in the Band or had you been friends even before the first joint productions began?

I have been friends with Zoltán for a much longer time. 13 years ago we sang joint vocals at a great concert given by United: this was our first joint performance. Since then, we have been surrounded by a joint circle friends, whom we often meet. In fact, it is very easy to work with Zoltán: he is a real professional. But we are very careful about not letting our friendship ruin our joint work or vice versa.

You have recently given birth to your baby and afterwards returned to the Band as an active member. How do you feel on the stage again?

My daughter, called Adél, was born at the beginning of February. She was half a year old when I felt that I was ready to return to the stage both physically and mentally. Of course, now I also know that the most difficult thing in the world is to leave my child at home. Certainly, her father takes good care of her and it is only for a few hours that we are apart. But while I am on stage, during those 60 minutes, my free spirit soars and I fill with energy: it is a great gift from life to be experienced by artists during their careers. Naturally, after the last bow in from of my audience, I rush home to see the greatest wonder in my life: my daughter.

You feature in the Band's shows as a diva. Are you like this in your daily life? Is this a style that is close to you?

Yes, I like refined, womanly elegance. But I also believe that it is primarily a woman's posture that makes a diva. And this must also come from the inside.

What is a new year's show with Group'n'Swing like?

All of our concerts have their own special atmosphere: an intimate concert in a small club is very different from a big-stage show. This new year's eve concert will be situated halfway between the two: it will feature many energetic songs and spectacular stage acts; a Group'n'Swing concert will always exhibit a good-spirited ambience and will offer great entertainment.

Have you ever performed in Pesti Vigadó? If so, what memories have you got of this place either as an everyday person or as a performing artist?

I and the Band have already given a few concerts in Pesti Vigadó. This is always a magnificent experience for me because the energy of this imposing building always captivates me. What is more, Franz Liszt gave a lot of concerts here, which makes this spot an even more charming and magical location. During my performances in Pesti Vigadó, it always strikes me how marvellous historic buildings and monuments as well as great historic figures Hungary can boast of.
