This month's Work of Art in Focus features a varied showcasing from works by award-winning artists of the Hungarian Academy of Arts' Section of Fine Arts. This is the 7th time the Section of Fine Arts has been staging an exhibition of this kind after last year's inevitable intermission in this series of events. This showcasing also marks a celebratory occasion as arts exhibitions of this kind can again be organised as in-person events.

In October, Pesti Vigadó's 5th floor exhibition hall presents works by six artists. For the first sight, the connections between the artworks are not so obvious, and yet the exhibited works of art present harmony and unity.

The first period of Ádám Szentpétery's career was characterised by the geometrical shape based reduction of figures and sceneries. This gave rise to an abstract form of expression, which has characterised him from the 1980s onwards. When beholding Ádám Szentpétery's images one discovers a unified image system composed of mathematical combinations. For those taking delight in order and symmetry, his works may appear reassuring as order and symmetry constitute one of the most powerful compositional principles of his art.

The title of this selected work by Ádám Szentpétery refers to the events and misfortunes that have been present in our lives since the beginning of the year 2020. This presence is more like an entrapment net, and the showcased artworks likewise make us associate to networks. The visuality elevating his artworks from 2D to 3D only reinforces this association. Acryl becomes a linen relief and almost transforms into a statue, which prompts the beholder to associate to the extended and large scale of such global networks. The title of Ádám Szentpétery's artwork also references this as his works of art bear titles such as Network or Covid20. The latter one entitled Covid20 is the artwork Pesti Vigadó has selected to feature as its Work of Art in Focus in October. Now, in the middle of autumn, we can still remember the uncertainty surrounding spring 2020 and the insecurity caused by the autumn lockdowns and we will likewise never forget the several-month-long period of lockdown then ahead of us. Now we simply remember these times but, as attested by last year, we can never know when we are going to end up again in the same endless situation of a spiral characterised by lockdowns and no way out as the periods we have just left behind. To some extent, the artwork entitled Covid20 also presents this emotional situation. Through his artistic sensitivity and precision, Ádám Szentpétery presents us with the hopelessness induced by the Covid situation: he creates a labyrinth to symbolise this feeling. He uses contrasting colours to make us realise the supposed or real deviation from the normal course of events. Thanks to Ádám Szentpétery's technique and skill as well as due to the fully perfect roundness of his image and the completely spherical vision of his artwork, the beholder may think that the globe may well be the Earth itself. It is with this in mind that the image becomes complete: for several decades, humankind has not experienced a global multicontinental trauma connecting and linking people in a way the Covid situation did. Perhaps these few lines discussing the artwork in question are not as positive and cheerful as they should be. Still, it is thanks to the experiences of such periods that art becomes one of the most powerful means of mentally processing and healing traumas of this kind.
