Graphic designer Ferenc Baráth was born in Kanjiza (Magyarkanizsa) in today’s Serbia in 1946. He completed his studies in the Secondary School of Fine Arts in the Vojvodina-based Novi Sad in 1966. Between 1965 and 1967, he worked as the graphic editor of the art and literary journal Új Symposion published in Hungarian. From 1967 to 1968, he was the graphic editor of the magazine Képes Ifjúság. Then, between 1968 and 1970, he was a student of painting at the Belgrade-based Fine Arts Academy. From 1971 to 1992, he worked for Forum Publishers in Novi Sad as a graphic and art editor. Between 1973 and 1992, he was a permanent fellow at Novi Sad Theatre and worked there as a graphic designer. During that period he continuously co-operated with other Yugoslavian theatres. From 1992, he designed posters for Thealter International Theatre Festival of Szeged (Hungary), which earned him worldwide recognition. His artistic success is mostly related to theatre poster design and spatial graphics. From 1992, he continued his artistic activity in Hungary, and became art editor of the journal Világszövetség published by the World Alliance of Hungarians. In 1994 he established Barát Art and Graphic Studio in Budapest, and continued his cooperation with Hungary-based theatres in his capacity as a graphic designer.

He has been member of the following organisations. Since 1970: Association of Fine Artists of Vojvodina; since 1993: Association of Hungarian Creative Artists and Association of Hungarian Fine and Applied Artists; founding member of the Hungarian Poster Association; and since 2018: Hungarian Academy of Arts.
