Molnár László József Munkácsy Prize-winning graphic artist and painter retrospective exhibition
László József Molnár's retrospective exhibition 50 Years offers an insight into the creative process of the graphic artist and painter from his graduation from the Academy of Fine Arts in Cluj-Napoca to the present day, from traces of movement to an imaginary visual alphabet, to objects accumulating in a tension of banality and eccentricity, which finally show some aesthetic quality in a baroque movement.
1000 characters: László József Molnár's retrospective exhibition „50 Years” offers an insight into the creative process of the graphic artist and painter from his graduation from the Cluj Academy of Fine Arts to the present day, from traces of movement to an imaginary visual alphabet, to objects that accumulate in a tension between banality and eccentricity, which ultimately display a kind of aesthetic quality in a baroque movement.
"In my work, I have tried to create a visual 'lexicon-like', looking for similarities in form and appearance, and I have found that there are striking similarities between a drapery and the folds of a hand, between the shape of a shell and a discarded asparagus, twine, the curves of a withered leaf, between a web of threads meeting at right angles, between a wire mesh or a lattice, and so on ad infinitum. We are interested in objects that have only aesthetic value, while we encounter a multitude of forms that look like indecipherable signs.
For me, being involved in art is about being present in the world, being in the consciousness, identifying and denying. It is an attempt to interpret, dismantle and reinterpret existence, to put together the fragmented and disintegrating world of appearances, in other words, the impossible..." (László József Molnár)
