Starring the Tárogató and the Cimbalom

The unique encounter of the tárogató and the cimbalom transports curious listeners back to historical times. Two exceptional Hungarian instruments, brought to life by their outstanding soloists—Zoltán Erdő, tárogató artist and recipient of the Transylvanian Hungarian Heritage Award, and Jenő Lisztes, cimbalom virtuoso—present rarely heard musical relics from the 1700s in an extraordinary performance with the Anima Musicae Chamber Orchestra.

Zoltán Erdő, president of the National Tárogató Institute, fulfills his musical mission on a 120-year-old rosewood tárogató inherited from his grandfather. This instrument was crafted during the era of the Kingdom of Hungary in the first Hungarian instrument factory. Jenő Lisztes, a fourth-generation cimbalom artist, carries on the family’s unique tradition of cimbalom mastery, and his playing has captivated audiences in the world’s most renowned concert halls.

The soloists are accompanied by the Anima Musicae Chamber Orchestra, one of Hungary’s most dynamically developing young ensembles, a regular performer at prestigious venues in Budapest and across Europe.
