Celebratory exhibition by Munkácsy Award winning painter Tibor Budaházi
In celebration of the artist’s 70th birthday this year, this retrospective exhibition by Munkácsy Award winning painter Tibor Budaházi focuses on the artist’s major works and spans a period of some 50 years. Awarded by the Hungarian Academy of Arts’ Section of Fine Arts in 2015, Tibor Budaházi considers himself primarily a painter in addition to his graphic and object art activities. His multi-layered, material-laden works are generally evocative of brooding, melancholic and deeply lyrical moods, sacred emotions and meditative transfiguration. In his painting, the act of contamination, i.e. mixing and blending things, coexists with the act of recreation, interpreted by Tibor Budaházi as the creation of pure aspects, scenes, images and surfaces. This act is coupled, on the one hand, with the nature of disorder and that of decomposition, and, on the other hand, with the idea of unification, fusing, preserving, adding, complementing, repairing and preserving. The technique of evocation is made complete with individual insights; the art and culture of exhaustion and cancellation is coupled with the artistry of replenishment and highlighting; while the moment of accidental discovery is made complete with the desire for vitalisation inducing experience and the desire for identification.
