Liszt Fest International Cultural Festival

Hungarian music composer Franz Liszt wrote only few chamber compositions, while traditional chamber music genres are completely missing from his lifework. At the same time, his surviving pieces – mainly his adaptations – provide a very exciting picture of Franz Liszt’s fantasy of music tones. And this is especially true to those pieces that were created at the very end of his music career. Over two decades ago in 1999, Barnabás Kelemen and Gergely Bogányi recorded all of Franz Liszt’s violin–piano compositions on two CDs. It can be claimed without exaggeration that this recording played a decisive part in making the general public better informed about these hardly-known aspects of Franz Liszt’s lifework. Compositions by Franz Liszt featured at Barnabás Kelemen and Mihály Berecz’s joint concert do not only talk about Franz Liszt’s late music pieces but also offer an insightful picture of a violin culture characterised by such representatives as Ede Reményi, Joseph Joachim and Jenő Hubay.
