Concert by MÁV Symphony Orchestra
Christoph Eschenbach is an exceptional personality of international musical life, who has become a highly acclaimed conductor after having been a pianist. He is one of the most exciting interpreters of the German musical repertoire, and is also committed to nurturing young talents. He tries to find those musicians who are “one hundred percent artists”. Certainly, in his time such a person was Felix Mendelssohn, who composed his brilliant Double Concerto for Violin, Piano and Strings in D Minor at the age of 14. Later Mendelssohn also published a version of this piece extended with woodwinds and timpani. This concert by MÁV Symphony Orchestra will feature this final version. At this concert, the audience will be able to listen to this rediscovered opus performed by up-and-coming violinist Abouzahra Amira, who was born of a Hungarian-Egyptian family, and pianist Zoltán Fejérvári, known for his individual style of play. As a final piece, the concert will feature Gustav Mahler’s Symphony No. 1, which established fame and renown for the Austrian musical genius in 1889. In this large-scale work, nicknamed “Titan” Symphony, the enchanting magic of German romanticism is combined with the elegance of contemporary Vienna and the gentle irony of the klezmer tradition to form a really captivating musical piece.
