Sárik Péter Trio released its arrangements of Beethoven’s works on a CD in 2016. The jazz musicians’ adventure into the world of symphonies and piano sonatas was enthusiastically received. “It is an honour and a great challenge to arrange the works of an epoch-making composer like Beethoven. As with every adaptation, I considered it very important to maintain the original message and mood of every composition. I also tried to imagine how the master would arrange his compositions if he had such a great jazz trio at his disposal as I do,” said Péter Sárik.
“I think he would be, even today, bold, distinctive and innovative. This was the guiding principle for our arrangements, and we will probably repeatedly surprise our audience because we did not shy away from the currently fashionable rhythms, the stylistic marks of modern jazz and pop. It’s a great game, and we have evidence galore that really great works not only stand the test of time, but become reinvigorated when placed in a current environment, making an impression of being contemporary compositions.”
