Händel: Utrecht Te Deum and Jubilate
Mozart composed his Concerto for Flute and Harp in Paris in 1778.
This piece is a light and elegant chamber music piece, and its last movement exhibits the theme of the musical romance A Little Night Music developed several years later. This concert features two musicians of the band: Hajnalka Bene and Bernadett Roskó will be playing the flute and the harp, respectively.
At the request of the English Royal Family, Händel composed his Utrecht Te Deum and Jubilate to commemorate the 1713 Peace of Utrecht. This was Händel’s first English-language religious musical
piece. The work is based on two liturgical texts: Hymnus (Te Deum laudamus) composed by Saint Ambrose of Milan and Saint Augustine, and Psalm 100 (Jubilate Deo omnis terra), which features as the morning prayer of the Church of England. Following the closing of long and tiresome peace negotiations, the official premier of this musical composition was held in the scope of a thanksgiving service on 7th July 1713.
