Exhibition and event series by Artists’ Scholarship winners of the Hungarian Academy of Arts

70 artists – 70 programmes

This event series comprises a one-month-long celebration of artists through a comprehensive exhibition and 70 artistic programmes.

It is the first time that in March 2023 the Hungarian Academy of Arts is organising a total art exhibition and event series entitled Essentia Artis from artworks by Artists’ Scholarship winners of the Hungarian Academy of Arts. In the scope of the scholarship programme launched in 2018, each year the Hungarian Academy of Arts offers a hundred artists and art theorists below the age of 50 monthly scholarships for a period of three years so that they can realise the artistic and art theoretical objectives defined in their applications. At this 2023 exhibition “Essentia Artis”, works by those artists and art theorists are featured who completed their scholarship periods in 2022.

Both the Hungarian Academy of Arts’ scholarship programme and the exhibition entitled “Essentia Artis” are total art efforts. At this exhibition and during the accompanying programmes, architectural arts, film and photo arts, literature, applied arts, design arts, fine arts, folk arts, theatrical arts, musical arts and art history – i.e. the main directions of the artistic scholarship programme – get intertwined in the scope of this year’s exhibition and programmes. The event series will also feature several performances, theatrical productions, roundtable talks, classical music concerts and children’s programmes.

The programmes of this series of events are organised around thematic days with the participation of scholarship winners, academicians and other invited guests. The thematic days entitled “Pure Source”, “Guarding, Using and Creating”, the “Power of Community” and “Culture and Innovation” are staged in Pesti Vigadó’s Sinkovits Imre Chamber Theatre, Makovecz Hall, Ceremonial Hall and 6th floor exhibition halls.

In addition, – through the involvement of museum, literature, music and dance pedagogues – guided tours, additional programmes and museum pedagogy activities contribute to making the wonderful world of Hungarian art and culture interesting and digestible to visitors.
