Visit Pesti Vigadó’s “Open Doors” Day! In the scope of this event Pesti Vigadó’s current and permanent exhibitions can again be visited free of charge all day. Please, be informed that, as part of the free-to-attend “Open Doors” Day programmes, some events require pre-registration.

Pesti Vigadó Nonprofit Ltd. organised its first “Open Doors” Day event in 2015 in commemoration of the 150th anniversary of the opening of the historic building. Since 2015, the event series has become a real family event, where all members of the visiting families can concurrently participate in the programmes and watch various artistic and cultural events. This year Pesti Vigadó’s “Open Doors” Day offers exhibitions, a design fair and related showcasing, a dance house as well as historic walk and guided tours in the magnificent building.

Entry to all of the events on “Open Doors” Day is free, but in the case of the historic walk and guided tours visitors are required to register online prior to the event.

10:00-19:00 | EXHIBITION AND FAIR OF HAND-CRAFTED PRODUCTS

This year, the “Open Doors” Day will again host an exhibition and fair of handcrafted products in Pesti Vigadó’s picturesque setting populated by exhibitors of handcrafted items. Come and buy unique pieces of handcrafted jewelleries, handbags, ceramics, textiles or home decorations, which have been prepared with utmost care and great skill.

10:00-18:30 | TRYING ON COSTUMES OF the Hungarian Reform Era AND PHOTO SHOOTING

Revisit the past with us, discover the spell of bygone eras and take part in a nostalgic photo shoot session in legendary Pesti Vigadó. Throughout the day visitors will have the opportunity to dress up in costumes of the Hungarian Reform Era (1825-1848). Your nostalgic moments of wearing such costumes will be captured by Pesti Vigadó’s professional photographer. Be part of the shining elegance of 19th century Budapest and keep the photo as one of your souvenirs of Hungary!

14:30-15:30 | COMPANY CANARIO’S PERFORMANCE OF 19TH CENTURY BALL ROOM DANCES AND DANCE TEACHING

Company Canario Historical Dance Group invites its audience to a performance where, in addition to rarely heard and seen music and dance curiosities, including landler, polonese, gallop, waltz, polka, Hungarian slow and quick czardas, verbunkos, it will be revealed – among other things – where Monkey Island is, what the “Messenger app” of the 19th century was, who was one of the most famous “celebrities” of the Hungarian Romantic era who also gave a guest performance at a concert in Pesti Vigadó. After Company Canario’s performance, the audience is invited to take part in a joint dance thereby evoking the ambience and mood of the Hungarian Reform Era’s afternoon salons.

17:30-18.30 | HUNGARIAN DANCE HOUSE WITH BARTÓK FOLK MUSIC ENSEMBLE

The programmes feature authentic Hungarian folk dance choreographies selecting from a wide and colourful range of dances practiced in the Hungarian-inhabited areas of the Carpathian Basin. In between the dance performances, this dance house will offer its audience the opportunity to learn and practice some dance steps together.
