Greek Catholic art
On the occasion of the 52nd International Eucharistic Congress of Budapest, this exhibition presents a collection of the treasures of religious art of Hungary’s Greek Catholic Church, which constitutes Hungary’s fourth biggest Christian denomination.
Who are the Greek Catholics? Where do they live? What characterises the unique icon painting and liturgical object culture in the Carpathian Basin?
Through the rich collection of objects and with the help of the exhibition’s numerous interactive panels, this showcasing offers an introduction to the exciting world of Greek Catholics, who cherish their own distinct cultural entity, and whose church – established at the crossroads of the eastern and western churches – mixes eastern and western cultural traditions.
