Performance by Badora Dance Company, Liszt Academy and National Dance Theatre
Emőke Solymosi Tari, an expert on László Lajtha’s music, writes: “[Capriccio] is perhaps the most cheerful, most brilliant composition in the oeuvre, which was written during one of the most mournful, tragic periods in Hungarian history, the bombing of Budapest, and is without doubt a representative of the desire to take internal refuge from reality.”
Dóra Barta, however, chose to take a non-traditional direction, concentrating on not only the original story of Capriccio, but also on the composer himself, László Lajtha. It is his life and inner world that come to life on the stage: the composition occasions a look behind the scenes, at the story of its birth.
It is a daring experiment, an unconventional enterprise to concentrate on the story of the work and its creator at the same time. László Lajtha’s person and the hardships of his life provide such compelling material that makes the legitimacy of this new approach unquestionable.
