The Lumen Christi Gospel Choir represents the “black gospel” genre in Hungary. Their songs, rooted in African-American spirituals, are performed in a uniquely personal style.
Their performances feature songs from the films Sister Act I–II, adaptations of traditional Afro-American spirituals, as well as award-winning pieces from the contemporary gospel scene. One of the highlights of their repertoire is Robert Ray’s six-part Gospel Mass.
The choir has released the following six albums: My Lord (2002), I Believe (2004), Amen (2006), Joy (2011), Hold On (2018), and God is Good (2023). On December 19, 2024, the choir gave a sold-out and highly successful Advent concert at the MOM Theatre Hall.
The Lumen Christi Gospel Choir has achieved success at numerous international choir competitions.
Most recently, in April 2025, the choir won the gospel/pop/modern category again at the 19th Budapest International Choir Competition, receiving a Gold Diploma, Level II. Between June 28 and July 2, 2025, the Lumen Christi Gospel Choir represented Hungary as the only Hungarian choir participating in the international “Champions Competition” in Aarhus, Denmark and won a silver medal.
At the Advent concert held on November 30 at the Vigadó, the audience will hear the choir’s most popular, must-have gospel songs, as well as the full program they performed at the Danish competition — plus a selection of new songs as a special treat.
