A retrospective exhibition of film director Ferenc Cakó

Ferenc Cakó, world-renowned and Kossuth Prize-winning animation film director, full member of the Hungarian Academy of Arts and creator of its Film and Photography Section, now presents his works primarily as a visual artist.

Of the three main pillars of his extensive oeuvre—fine art, animated film, and live sand animation—this exhibition showcases his paintings realized through various techniques. These works range from compositions rich in color to others built upon shades of grey, white, and black. The latter are recent creations whose dynamic, vibrant, and mysterious images—filled with transitions yet interwoven with tension—depict a vision of the dance of life imbued with anxiety.

Alongside his paintings, the artist also exhibits his surreal etchings—rooted in a virtuoso command of linework—and his luminous sand images, through which he has successfully translated the expressive vision of his live sand-drawing performances. The exhibition also features a selection of his animated films.

With this exhibition, Pesti Vigadó pays tribute to the film director and visual artist Ferenc Cakó on the occasion of his 75th birthday.
