The artwork of the month of May is the 65x21x12 cm wooden work by sculptor András Kós, In front of the curtain.

András Kós celebrated the 110th anniversary of his birth in 2024, and the travelling exhibitionnwas created as part of this occasion, and the carving entitled In front of the curtain was exhibited as part of it. Kós András carries on the great legacy of his father, Károly Kós, and his art reflects the diverse motifs of Hungarian folk art, the sensitive and romantic style, the handicraft, the chirada, folk decoration. However, András Kós's art is an autonomous and independent art. While we can recognise the heritage in his sculptures, we can recognise in the oeuvre treated in the exhibition the self-asserted greatness that his sculptures represent.

The work of the month is an oak carving of two female figures, of medium size compared to the other works. The carving does not explore the wood's gifts, not in the tradition of Renaissance pathos, to discover a sculpture "locked" in the material; but rather, it shapes the desired forms according to its own definite ideas. The elongated bodies do not insist on conforming to reality, they do not want to be lifelike, thus, they are airy, light, free and almost like Chagallian lovers flying.
