Ujvárossy László - DRIED UP SPRING, 1994-2022, assemblage, wood panel, jug, acrylic

The chosen artwork of the month of April is an assemblage by László Ujvárossy, titled The Dried Up Spring. The work is a playful conceptual piece that deals with the specificity of the spatial extension of the assemblage, the transfiguration of items in ready-made objects, the change of their original meaning and the elevation of the everyday object into a work of art.

The jar applied upside down on the wall plate indicates that it is empty, that it has no function at present. The word "source" gives the simple everyday object some greater role, ontological significance, thus symbolising its vital role, while "driing up" symbolises perishing, this is the immanent tension of the eternal dichotomy. The twisted title - symbol - meaning system gives the concept its grandeur.

The work of art is a jug applied to a wooden plate, a shadow painted on one side and a real shadow appearing on the other as a result of the contingency of the lighting. It is a perfection of the concept, a play of symbol, copy, reflection, real and fake.
