From February 20th, we warmly welcome our guests to the Ground Floor exhibition hall of the Pesti Vigadó for an exhibition of Imre Schrammel's works and the reflections of contemporary fashion designers.
Imre Schrammel, born in 1933 in Szombathely, is one of the innovators of Hungarian and universal ceramic art at the turn of the millennium with his creations, theoretical work, symposium leadership, and technical inventions. He studied at the Hungarian Academy of Applied Arts from 1952 to 1957, where his mentors were Miklós Borsos and István Gádor. In 1966, he was awarded the Munkácsy Prize. He received a gold medal at the Faenza Ceramic Biennale in 1974, later winning the Grand Prize. After numerous other international recognitions, he was awarded the Kossuth Prize in 1991. From 1958, he was a professor at the Hungarian Academy of Applied Arts, and from 1993 to 1999, he served as its rector. From 1981, he worked as a member of the board of the International Academy of Ceramics, becoming its vice president in 1986. He was also appointed guest professor at several overseas and European universities. He was a founding member of the Hungarian Academy of Arts, established in 1992, and since 2011, he has been a full member of the public body. In 2014, he was named the Artist of the Nation, and in 2020, he received the Budapest Award.
At the opening, Turi Attila, president of the Hungarian Academy of Arts, gave a welcoming speech, and the exhibition was opened by Gábor Mezei, a full member of the MMA and interior designer.
In addition to Schrammel Imre's works, clothing designs by contemporary fashion designers are on display, inspired by the artist's work "Carnival": Attalai Zita, Csanák Edit DLA, Farkas Imola, Földi Kinga, Hideg Orsolya, Molnár Mária Virág, Nádasdi Katalin, Pál Anikó Orsolya, Papp-Vid Dóra DLA, Pester-Gyarmati Teodóra, Polyák Eszter, Sziráczky Brigitta, Szűcs Blanka, Szűcs Edit.
The exhibition curators are designer Attalai Zita and art historian Keppel Márton.
The exhibition is open until April 20th.
