Tibor Bráda: St. Luke (2008)
One of the four evangelists, St. Luke, is traditionally believed to have painted the image of Mary located in the Basilica of Santa Maria Maggiore in Rome as well as the icon of the Black Madonna to be found in Częstochowa, and is also credited with having painted Jesus' face. This glass mosaic by Tibor Bráda depicts St. Luke painting the Virgin Mary with the baby Jesus in her hands. The image features the attribute of the winged bull – representing St. Luke – situated at the Virgin Mary's feet.
The Day of Hungarian Painting is celebrated on 18th October, the Feast of St. Luke.
This month's Work of Art in Focus by Tibor Bráda is on display every day in all of Pesti Vigadó's exhibition halls between 10 am and 7 pm as part of Pesti Vigadó's exhibition entitled the "Day of Hungarian Painting".
