In February, the Work of Art of the Month is a photographic series showcasing decaying, rotting, deforming, and amorphous fruits and vegetables in vibrant colors. These abstract plants, with their unusual appearance, are placed and illuminated in a studio setting against a black background, creating a cosmic effect.

The colorful layers of mold and the emerging architectural structure of the plants lead us into an abstract, almost painterly world. Due to their composition and the overall impact of the series, we might associate them with planets, cosmic nebulae, or even microscopic elementary particles, while simultaneously gaining a tangible understanding of the marvelous nature of the cycle of life.

The artist, András Máthé, writes in his introduction that "about 30 years ago, I took my first ‘moldy' photograph of food leftovers left in a refrigerator. Since then, I have been hunting for this theme, and I started facilitating the rotting, molding, and aging of fruits and other foods myself."

The results of this 30-year-long creative process, its "fruits," are the works on display at the exhibition, which can be seen in the exhibition hall on the 6th floor of Pesti Vigadó as part of the exhibition presenting the works from the Esztergom Photography Biennale, open until February 19.
