The Jubilee Concert of the Budapest Monteverdi Choir

The BUDAPEST MONTEVERDI CHOIR unveils a richly woven programme as it enters the 55th year of its artistic existence in 2026.

ÉVA KOLLÁR, the choir’s founding conductor, has selected works from the wide expanse of the European musical tradition. The opening concert of the jubilee season features compositions by the choir’s namesake Claudio Monteverdi, complemented by Italian, French and English madrigals. This will be followed by J. S. Bach’s motet that begins with the words “Lobet den Herren.”

A special feature of the program is a short visual montage that offers the audience glimpses of the many memorable moments from more than half a century of making music together. This is followed by J. Brahms’s beautiful work Nänie, composed to a poem by Friedrich Schiller and performed with piano accompaniment by Benabdallah Marouan.

In the concluding section, the celebrating choir performs works by Hungarian composers Béla Bartók, Lajos Bárdos and József Karai.
