GLASS · IMAGE · WRITING
Exhibition of applied artist Gergely Pattantyús“The images are graphics — imprints of the face of Christ, like the Veil of Veronica — which I continue to draw and paint on framed glass, then lacquer, turn toward the graphic, mix with another graphic image, and then paint and continue further.”
“I could be anything; let me remain in the shadows,” wrote J. L. Borges. This thought guides the artist, who through his glass paintings creates a mysterious world that moves along the boundary between meaning and perception. His works are not obscure, but rather multivalent — they are completed through the viewer’s gaze and thoughts. The exhibition presents 30 glass paintings of various sizes, as well as calligraphic works that lend a delicate rhythm and lyrical tone to the use of materials. In addition, eight glass sculptures are also on display, enriching the atmosphere of the exhibition space. At the core of these works lies an interpretation based on the searching movement of the eye and a profound philosophical depth.
The exhibition pays homage to philosopher Elemér Kéri, whose thought and humanity had a defining influence on the artist’s worldview. “This is not an egocentric desire,” writes the artist, “but a gesture born of gratitude — to show what kind of people the twentieth century could produce, and to speak of this through images.”
