The second concert in the Saint Stephen Philharmonic Orchestra’s Winter Concert Series
How are musical forms passed down through generations, and how does the way we think about music change? This concert traces the transformation of musical language from the Baroque to Romanticism through works by Carl Philipp Emanuel Bach, Beethoven and Mendelssohn. C. P. E. Bach’s expressive symphony already points towards Romanticism, Beethoven’s Second Symphony pushes the boundaries of the Classical style, while Mendelssohn’s Violin Concerto combines Classical elegance with the passionate expression of the Romantic era. Three works, three periods and one compelling musical journey.
