Vadym Kholodenko, one of the most distinguished pianists on the international classical music scene, takes to the stage as part of the Cziffra Festival. Critics have compared the Kyiv-born artist’s playing to that of the great pianists of the instrument’s golden age—a virtuoso tradition embodied so extraordinarily by the festival’s namesake, the legendary Georges Cziffra. A gold medallist of the Van Cliburn International Piano Competition, Kholodenko continues to captivate audiences with his astonishing technical mastery and profound artistic sensitivity. On this occasion, he contrasts two iconic works by Beethoven—the radiant “Waldstein” Sonata and the deeply affecting, emotionally candid “Pathétique” Sonata. The programme is completed by a remarkable piano transcription of Mozart’s Requiem by Karl Klindworth, a pupil of Liszt, presented as an artistic expression of the performer’s sincere and personal grief.
