This November we celebrate the 90th anniversary of the birth of Imre Makovecz. On this occasion, several significant commemorations and events will take place, complementing and reinforcing one another, while examining and presenting from different perspectives the life’s work and lasting ideas of the most important Hungarian architect of the 20th century.

Alongside the exhibition LIVING HUNGARIAN ARCHITECTURE – Borderless Nation-Building, on view at the Pesti Vigadó between September 25 and November 9, 2025, the Hungarian Academy of Arts, the Károly Kós Foundation, and the Mathias Corvinus Collegium are jointly organizing a conference. The conference Nation-Building – In the Footsteps of Imre Makovecz will focus on the enduring impact of Makovecz’s oeuvre and aims to evaluate the achievements of Hungarian organic architecture of the past fifteen years in a broader context.
